Synagogue Church Consulting - Michael M. Remson - Senior Consultant

SCC's approach is based on these principles:

1. Your congregation is an emotional system. Have you ever noticed how often people are unwilling to listen to reason? That is because they are acting out of emotion and not logic. Sometimes the issue on the table is not the real issue at all, and addressing it will not solve the real problem. SCC can teach your congregation to navigate these emotional minefields.

2. Anxiety is contagious. Have you ever noticed that anxiety can spread through a congregation as fast as a cold through a kindergarten? Anxious people can derail a congregation and keep it from moving toward its goals and mission. Nevertheless, as Peter Steinke teaches us, anxiety is like a virus and must find a host in order to cause harm. SCC can teach your leaders to avoid becoming hosts for that anxiety.

3. Trained Leaders can limit the effects of anxiety. Calm leaders who stay in touch with disgruntled members can limit the available hosts and prevent anxiety from spreading. Healthy, self-differentiated leadership can keep your congregation on track. SCC can teach your lay leaders to remain calm, in touch and self-differentiated.

4. Conflict can be managed. Conflict is a normal part of congregation life. Trying to resolve it completely is impossible. You may put out a flame, but a new one will soon arise. Conflict management, however, will allow your congregation to move toward its goals and mission. SCC can teach your congregation successful ways of managing conflict.

5. Transitions can strengthen congregations. Transitions are stressful, but they are also unavoidable. Fortunately, as stressful as they may be, they can leave your congregation stronger and healthier, and move it toward a very bright future. SCC's services can guide your congregation through these most difficult of times.

6. A healthy environment fosters creativity. In a safe, calm, and healthy congregation, people are not afraid to suggest new ideas and try them. Members feel free to help the congregation reach its full potential. SCC can show your leadership how to foster such an environment.
